Whichever medium Andrew McLeod chooses, random objects float in an imaginary world where perspective, weight and shadow don’t exist.
Andrew grew up in Mt Eden, Auckland. He studied at Elam School of Fine Art, NICAI, Auckland University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1998. Andrew was the recipient of an Arts Foundation Award for Patronage Donation from Gus & Irene Fisher in 2010.
McLeod’s paintings feel like acute records of intensive mental self-analysis or elaborate stages for coded autobiography and cathartic psychodrama. His compositions imply labyrinths, elaborately complex architectural plans, or Piranesi-inspired grottoes and interiors.

We were very excited to have some of our Good Form pieces used in a styled feature by the talented Sara Black in the latest edition of HOME magazine. "Good vintage – Classic and modern designs take their place, standing in their own light, space and time."
Andrew McLeod draws inspiration from the arts and crafts movement, Art Nouveau, the Bauhaus, constructivism, Matisse, Albers and the Hudson River School. His legacy is recognised by a presence in significant art collections, including Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Te Papa Tongarewa, the University of Auckland and the National Gallery of Victoria. He received the National Drawing Award in 2004, a McCahon House Residency in 2007, a New Zealand Arts Foundation Award for Patronage in 2010, and is the inaugural recipient of the Gullies Art Residency for 2022.
