Gunnar Cyrén trained as a goldsmith and silversmith. His diverse oeuvre featured everything from artefacts and ceremonial objects to beautiful utility items. Intially, Gunnar Cyren worked with various silver manufacturers, before turning to glass in 1959 when he was hired by Orrefors. He remained at Orrefors for ten years, designing engraved glass and tableware.
In 1970 Gunnar began to work for Dansk Designs Ltd in New York, working in plastic and stainless steel. In 1976 he returned to Orrefors on a freelance basis, and started his own silversmithy in 1977. Gunnar was constantly true to the material in his quest for authenticity, and constantly true to the actual craftsmanship in his infinite experiments
In 1989 Gunnar Cyren created a new glass service for the Nobel Prize banquet.
