Since day one, I’ve hoped people would feel inspired by my work.
Archipelago House – Karimoku Case Study
Karimoku Case Study is brought to life by some of the world’s leading architecture studios. Keiji Ashizawa and Norm Architects are renowned for their forward-thinking architecture and product designs. Drawing on their respective Japanese and Danish design traditions, the collaborating studios fuse modernity and tradition, while incorporating an inherent love for natural materials and quality craftsmanship. Here, they reflect on their collaborations with Karimoku.
Through logical thinking and open-mindedness, the studio presents works of ‘honest’ design — simple, thoughtful and refined — derived naturally through the process of maximizing the potential of each material.
After graduating from Yokohama National University in 1996, Keiji spent the first ten years of his career working as both an architect and steel fabricator. The unique skills and experience gained throughout these early years, including a valued understanding of materials, continue to influence his approach to design.
