Our friends over at Here Magazine have just announced the winners of their inaugural Here awards last week. The awards program is a celebration of the architecture industry and gives deserved recognition to the talent we have in New Zealand.
We're showcasing some of our favourite category winners. Make sure to pick up your copy of the latest issue of Here or visit thisishere.nz to read more about these stunning homes.
We were thrilled to see Super Taper by Jack McKinney Architects take home the title of Best House Aotearoa 2021. It's a stunning renovation of a Freemans Bay villa with a seamless demonstration of classic meets contemporary.
From the steep tapered roof that sheds light across the living room, to the carefully positioned windows that give privacy as well as curated views of the pool, this Ponsonby renovation ticks all our boxes. We especially love the textural and crafted feel of the interior that contrasts with the crisp white exterior. It’s a unique bridging of old and new that gives a calm and contemplative mood to the home.
Winning the New House Award, Caspers House by Glamuzina Architects features a refreshing take on colour and play that is not often seen in New Zealand architecture.
The bach with its pitched roof takes reference from A-frame designs, and is clad with purple corrugated fiberglass and complete with a deep blue interior. It’s a fun, bold design and gives a playful sense of intrigue.
Kahutara House by Patchwork Architecture won the Craft and Detail category and its easy to see why. The home, located on a rural site in the Wairarapa, features a ’S’ shaped floor plan, stunning macrocarpa cabinetry and a huge custom sliding door that maximises the space.
A big congratulations to all of the architects and owners of these stunning homes.
