The ‘Nunatak’ Candle Holder is the latest minimalist offering from Oslo-based studio Anderssen & Voll for Nedre Foss. The shape can be interpreted in many ways, resembling architectural structures or nature; like deer antlers. The name ‘Nunatak’ reflects it’s geological inspiration: a hill or mountain completely surrounded by glacial ice.
Beginning with hand drawn sketches and cardboard models the process continued with a clay model built in the studio workshop. The analog and manual work is present in the final product with its marks by the hands and tools used for the sculpting. The clay model was then 3D scanned and refined in order to prepare it for cast iron molding. Nunatak is seasoned with linseed oil at 450 Degrees Celcius to obtain a finish that will endure a long life.
