Earlier this year at Salone de Mobile, L. Ercolani has released a selection of new designs and updates to iconic classics along with an inspired new set of imagery.
Swedish designer Jonas Wagell's 'Grade' Lounge Collection combines an understated, contemporary Scandinavian design perspective with the strength of history of Ercol's century in furniture production. Jonas was inspired by soft shapes, minimalism, and a sense of play with a goal to “exemplify modern-day life.”

Effortless yet eye-catching and elegant, the Grade three seater sofa accentuates an understated elegance bringing warmth and comfort into its environment. The precise build and curves of the padded body of the sofa show nothing but true, detailed craftsmanship.
Jonas Wagell designed the Grade range in 2022, his intention was to create furniture with outstanding comfort, paired with minimal friendly aesthetics. Meticulous design work defines the creation of this piece, from the curves of the seat to the remarkable ash underframe.
Newly appointed Chairman Henry Tadros who is a grandson of the conpany's founder, Lucian Ercolani, notes that this collection addresses a need for a different level of comfort for the current audience than what the earlier designs in catered to.
Two dining chair models have also been given an update with three addition of a seat pad to allow customisation and again, comfort: the Flow Chair by Tomoko Azumi and the Butterfly Chair by Lucian Ercolani. Wooden forms are softened by the upholstery and add another layer to an interior. Henry says "a chair designed for people in the 1950s just can’t do the job for people in the 2020s".
To present these designs, L. Ercolani has selected some exciting locations for some the updated imagery including a home by legendary architect Jorn Utzon, Ahm House (1962), which he designed for a friend. The materials, tones and styling by Atelier LK speak to the warmth of the current design mood and the images expand on the company's vision for a natural, timeless approach.
