The company produced various wooden parts for things like pianos and sewing machines in the ensuing decades before launching its own line of wooden furniture in the 1960s. With a location near Toyota HQ, Karimoku also learnt a lot from them over the years, turning amateur workers into professional ones.

Owning 7 factories located in both the Aichi prefecture and Gifu prefecture in Japan, each factory is specially developed to create and work with specific furniture categories. One factory for making dining chairs, others for upholstery, and so on.

I believe that making quality furniture is at our core, but that it isn’t enough. We want to tell their stories, too.

Matching the height of the sofa while referencing the traditional Japanese, short legged chabudai dining table, the A-CT01 coffee table can be utilized while seated on the floor. The transparent glass top highlights the structure of the legs in an honest way, celebrating the material. This coffee table is one of twelve tailormade furniture pieces that make up the first collection of Karimoku Case Study, the Kinuta Terrace Project, all drawing on the natural references of the connected courtyard in an attempt to invite in nature as much as possible — in their design language as well as through their material compositions.

To make furniture from wood, we use trees that take between 50 to 100 years to grow. We always keep that in mind and are humble about what we do.
