This collaboration with significant mid-20th century textile designer and artist Avis Higgs draws on the innovative and highly celebrated modernist designs she produced during the 1940s.
Born and trained in Wellington, Higgs became Head Designer for Silk and Textile Printers in Sydney from 1941 to 1946. Taking inspiration from the local environment and nearby locations such as Bondi Beach, she earned a reputation as one of Australasia's most innovative textile designers. In 1948 Higgs returned to New Zealand and once again drew inspiration from her local environment creating designs based on native plants, flowers, and taonga held at the National Museum.
